Best Fantasy Football Lineup

In fantasy football, everybody has good weeks and bad weeks. Unfortunately last week was one of those weeks for me, as most of my picks to succeed last week did not pan out. I had a couple do well, like Kyler Murray and a pair of tight ends in Austin Hooper and Mark Andrews, but who saw an 0-4 New York Jets team basically shut down a Dallas Cowboys team who was in desperate need of a win? Dak you let me down… That being said, this week we are going to fix that and set up the best fantasy football lineup!

Quarterbacks

Jared Goff – Los Angeles Rams

Goff has struggled early this year to find the same success he had last season. He has only had 1 game with over 20 points in traditional scoring leagues, and that was the shoot out against Tampa Bay in which the Rams lost 55-40. With the Rams urgently needing a win this week after three straight losses, look for Jared Goff to get back on track against the hapless Atlanta Falcons who have let up at least 20 points in every game this season.

Daniel Jones – New York Giants

The rookie had an amazing first game against the Buccaneers that had New York fans asking Eli who? He has fallen back to work a little over the last few games, however, throwing 6 interceptions including 3 against the Patriots last Thursday night. Saquon Barkley looks to be coming back though, and that should open up the offense a little for Daniel Jones. The fact that the Giants face the Arizona Cardinals helps as well, another team letting up at least 20 points in every game this year.

Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen has had a few nice games, but hasn’t had that breakout performance just yet. After facing a couple tough defenses in New England and Tennessee, plus a bye week to prepare, Allen gets to come home to face the win less Miami Dolphins. I have Allen starting in 2 leagues myself, and expect a nice showing through the air plus a few yards on the ground from this agile QB.

Running Backs

Josh Jacobs – Oakland Raiders

The last time we saw Josh Jacobs, he was running over the best run defense in the NFL, the Chicago Bears, who had completely stuffed Dalvin Cook the week before. With a week of rest and the Green Bay Packers up next, look for this former Alabama running back to put up some really good numbers this week.

Mark Ingram II – Baltimore Ravens

Normally I try to stay away from running back going against tough defenses such as the Seattle Seahawks, but Mark Ingram has been very successful in his transition to Baltimore. With Lamar Jackson holding defenses with the threat of running himself, Ingram has had many open holes to run through this year, and scored touchdowns in 4 of their first 6 games. Look for Ingram to have a good game at Seattle this week.

Chris Carson – Seattle Seahawks

It looked like Chris Carson might be on the way to the bench after early season fumbling issues, but he has rewarded Pete Carroll with 3 straight solid games over 100 yards rushing. Look for that to continue against a depleted Baltimore Raven defense.

Wide Receivers

Cooper Kupp – Los Angeles Rams

Cooper Kupp has been Jared Goff’s favorite target this year, having hit over 100 yards in 4 of their first 5 games, and after a tough game against the 49ers last week, Kupp should rebound nicely with his quarterback against the Falcons.

Michael Gallup – Dallas Cowboys

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice… I know I had Gallup on my ranking last week, but somehow the Jets decided to become a defensive juggernaut if only for one week. This week, however, the Cowboys have an enormous match-up against division rival Philadelphia Eagles, who haven’t had much luck stopping anybody this year. Adding to the fact that even if Amari Cooper plays, he will be hampered by a sore quad so Dak Prescott will be looking Gallup’s way a lot Sunday night.

DJ Chark Jr. – Jacksonville Jaguars

Last week Chark had a tough go against Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints. I do not expect that to carry over to this week against the Cincinnati Bengals who have yet to win a game. With Minshew magic running wild, I expect DJ Chark Jr. to have a bounce back game this week.

Tight Ends

Evan Engram – New York Giants

Engram was out of last week’s game against the Patriots with a knee injury, but he will be returning this week for an attractive match up versus the Cardinals. With Sterling Shepard likely out again this week, Daniel Jones with probably look to Engram early and often.

Darren Waller – Oakland Raiders

Waller had a tough start to his career, being placed on injured reserve his rookie season in 2015, then suspended 4 games in 2016 and then the entire season in 2017 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In 2018, he was placed on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, where he was subsequently picked up by the Raiders. After a nondescript season in 2018, he has started to show signs of why he was selected in the 2015 draft by the Ravens. After a tough showing against the Bears (mainly because Josh Jacobs was being so effective there was really no reason to throw the ball much) Waller has a match-up against the Green Bay Packers, and looks to get back on track as he flirts with TE1 status.

Gerald Everett – Los Angeles Rams

I am not too proud to admit when I am wrong (My wife would probably disagree though). I expected a much better showing last week against the 49ers for the Rams as a team and specifically Everett. It didn’t happen though. It’s too early to give up on him, however, with his ability to make tough catches in the middle of the field and the difficulty to bring him down. Going against Atlanta this will be a much better showing for the young Rams tight end.

Defenses

Buffalo Bills

You can basically put whoever plays the Miami Dolphins on this list every week. Throw in the Buffalo Bills, who have had a sack against every quarterback they have faced not named Tom Brady, and 8 turnovers for the season. you should definitely have this defense in your starting line-up this week!

San Francisco 49ers

If the 49ers are not on your every week starting list already, they should be. The most points they have let up all season was 20 points against the Steelers, and they have had multiple sacks in every game they have played so far. This includes 4 sacks in 3 different games! In addition to that the 49ers have had at least 1 turnover in each game this year. Next up is the Washington Redskins, who were a missed two point conversion from losing to the Miami Dolphins last week. Washington is in for a long day on Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jalen Ramsey was finally traded today, to the Los Angeles Rams. Although he is a great defensive back and impossible to replace, sometimes a defense can come together after losing a player like this, plus no longer having the distraction to deal with. Add this to the fact they are playing the win less Cincinnati Bengals and the Jaguars are a good streaming option this week. I have them in one of my leagues as well.

Conclusion

Fantasy football is funny sometimes. No matter how much research you do, there are games that you are for sure will go one way then the results are completely different (We’re looking at you Cowboys). The only thing to do is move on to the next week. If your season is not looking good, you can always check out my review on Daily Fantasy Sports here.

As always, please leave comments or questions below. If you have other players that are not listed, start the discussion below! Good luck on week 7!

  1. Fantasy sports are such fun, especially I think if you can play against others. I wonder, do you use an app or website to record your rem results or do you do it by hand? Part of the fun for me is doing the calculations every week and drawing up league tables so I don’t use them.

    • I enjoy the Yahoo app, it is what I use for the leagues that I am commissioner. Easy to use, lots of information at your fingertips. I have a couple leagues in the ESPN app, which also has plenty of information but for me is not as user friendly. Sounds like a lot of fun to do the calculations yourself, I wish I had more time to be able to do that, but with 4 kids that normally takes up my extra time!

  2. Thanks for your analysis of the best fantasy football lineup for the week. I definitely agree with you that Fantasy Football is a hit or miss venture. There have been players (and teams) that I have had high expectations with and they have blown me out of the water with their poor performances.

I do check the stats and keep up with opponents the players will face, but even with the best data they sometimes do just the opposite of what the numbers and data indicate they should do. That is why I like coming to sites such as this one so I can read what others are thinking.

The recommendations and reasoning you are using for the selections you have provided all seem to make sense to me, I will give them a try and see what happens. It is all in good fun, but for once I would like to get some bragging rights from the game! You may have helped me in that regard. Good stuff…

    • Thank you for the comments, I agree bragging rights are sometimes more important than the win itself! Sometimes… I just hope these teams start acting like the teams they are supposed to be, especially the Chicago Bears!

  3. The best fantasy football wow sounds nice however I would feel more pleased if I’m seeing the pictures of thse please please and stay me giving me a post I want to see some pictures thank you the lineup was awesome and everything else is nice too

I would also love to see strategy that is been used so if possible you can show us this way everything will be more realistic to ask and much more easy for us to understand that’s all

  4. I have actually had some very good picks and sometimes I just think I get lucky to be able to go all the way the way I did. I think that my main problem is choosing defence though. This past few weeks have been really bad for and sometimes I just think of giving up fantasy but like you have said, we need to hope for the best in the coming week. Nice post!

    • Thank you! Sometimes defense is tough to pick, especially in this league where it seems like every rule is for the offense. A lot of times I will try and pick a great defense even though I have to pick them early in the draft so I do not have to worry about them all year, but when I cannot I look a couple weeks in advance and try to pick up defenses based on match ups (seriously, anybody playing the Dolphins this year will be a good defensive matchup!)

  5. your reviews and tips have been the major guideline for me in my fantasy football because i really like engaging in it. it gives a sense of direct involvement in the games. Though going by my set up, the tam didn’t do well the last time out but then, with this your guide again, im sure to make a good headway back and get back on track.Though I am also closely monitoring the Dallas team. I want to be very sure before making any pick at all.

    • I am glad it helps out. The Dallas Cowboys definitely befuddles me this past week, I know they have the offensive firepower to put up points! Hopefully they bounce back this week vs. the Eagles.

  6. Wow! just like always, you do not disappoint in your selections that i always lookout for. this is really immense for me as i already plan for your picks before attempting anything or make changes to my fantasy team. Thank you so much for all these. However, this is really great for me. I will surely head to it to make the changes now. cheers

  7. I agree with the evan engram. I think he should have a great week. Although Barkley is back but they should both have a decent week.
