So after a couple of weeks into the football season, and your team isn’t doing so well. Whether it is because you had bad luck with injuries, your players aren’t playing as well as expected, or you simply didn’t draft a good team, your fantasy football season is quickly turning into a nightmare. The whole season is wasted, right? Not necessarily. Luckily for us, a few companies have grown daily fantasy sports into a large industry, where you can basically draft a new team (or multiple teams) for just about every game or set of games.

What is Fanduel?

Fanduel is one of the largest daily sports companies, with millions of users on a daily basis. In addition to football, there is also contests for MLB, WNBA, NBA, English Premier League, NHL and others. There are multiple different prices available ranging from free to 50 thousand dollars! If you choose to put some money on the line, there are many ways you can win. Tournaments place you in a pool with hundreds or thousands of other players, and the higher you finish the more you win. If you choose a 50/50 contest, you have a chance to double your money if you finish just above half or the other competitors. There are many other variations of these, you should look through them to see what types of contests you like.

In addition to selecting the type of contest you want to participate in, you also need to select the time. For example, you can choose to use players from any team that plays Sunday, or just the teams that play during the early window (games starting around 1pm EST), or just the later games (starting after 4pm EST). There are also contests that include every NFL game played that week, from Thursday night through the Monday night game.

Next – choosing you players

Ok, so now you know which time slot you are picking from and which contest you want to do. Now for the fun part! You get to draft your players based on a traditional PPR scoring system. Instead of drafting with other players, however, you will use an auction draft, where you are given a $60,000 “salary” to spread across 9 players. This includes a quarterback, 2 running backs, 3 wide receivers, a tight end, flex player (wide receiver, running back, or tight end), as well as a team defense/special teams. Most contests allow multiple entries to be entered, so if you want to play around and have a few different line-ups this is perfectly fine.

Fanduel has also added single game contests, where you can choose any 5 players from any game, including quarterback, running back, wide receiver or tight end. One player is considered your MVP, and this player will get a multiplier bonus of 1.5 times the points he gets during the game. The point system is the same outside of that, and the available contests are the same as well.

What kind of strategy to use?

Daily fantasy is slightly different from your season long league. It’s highly possible for many participants in any contest to have the same players that you do! So even though you picked Saquon Barkley, so did a lot of other people. Also, since you have a limited amount of money to use to draft players, you will not be able to stack your team with top-level talent such as Barkley and Ezekiel Elliot.

So in order to compete and win contests you will need to find that player that not many other people will choose, and hope that your research is correct and that player scores a lot of points. This is where having multiple lineups available helps, as if one of your lineups is not performing you have other opportunities to win.

Fanduel has also added a Guru option that helps you choose players for any given contest, which is very helpful if you are just getting started in daily fantasy sports. There is also beginner contests that you will not be able to join after you have participated in 50 Fanduel contests or won more than $2,500, so in the beginning definitely use these options to get your feet wet. Fanduel also shows who the experienced and highly experienced players are, with experienced players being in more than 500 total contests or $2,500 won over 6 contests and highly experienced being players with over 1,000 total contests under their belt or $1,000+ won in 4 or more contests.

What if you have already passed the beginner status and aren’t quite “experienced”? Fanduel also has intermediate contests available, for those players in between.

If you want to gain an advantage over your other contestants, consider getting a Pro Football Focus membership, to get in depth research that you can use for your daily fantasy football as well as your season long leagues.

Is Fanduel a scam?

I am sure you have heard bad reviews of Fanduel and other daily fantasy sites. There have been many court cases and settlements from these daily fantasy sites including Fanduel. These suits are mainly considered with false advertising, which Fanduel and others now make sure to be more transparent with their practices. Fanduel is not a get-rich-quick scheme, so if you are spending money you cannot afford to lose you may want to steer clear of this site and others like it. Fanduel is not a scam, as it is possible to win no matter who you are.

There are, however, certain states that do not allow Fanduel to operate. This map is from the Fanduel website. So unfortunately if you live in these states you are unable to participate in paid Fanduel contest.

Obviously people with more money and opportunities to put multiple line-ups in each week are going to have a better chance of winning. But as with anything, with experience you will get better and have better chances to win. The more you play the more you will see what combinations of players work better. More importantly, Fanduel is a game, and should be enjoyed as such. Yes, it is always more fun to win money than to lose it, but at the end of the day that is part of the risk when putting your hard-earned money on the line.

In Conclusion

If you are a fan of fantasy sports at all, Fanduel is definitely a website to check out. There are lots of different options, prices, and games to choose from, and many for less than $5 each. Daily fantasy football adds fun to your weekend football watching just as traditional fantasy football does, without the season long commitment. Didn’t do well this week? That’s ok, try again with a different line up next week! Use this code to sign up, and get a bonus!

  1. Hi There,
I would love to be able to ask you, or get into a discussion on the page
but unfortunately I was unable to read the black on the dark blue  background?
sounds very interesting and fantasy sport sounds like something I would enjoy as actual sport is to hard!! LOL
Let me know if you change the background colour and I will be more than happy to come back and view the site and offer my opinion

    Thanks
    Jan

    • Thank you for the information, I do not know why it is showing up differently on my phone than it is on my computer, where it is a white background so the lettering is easier to see. I will work on it and let you know when it is fixed!

Update: I changed the background to a much easier color to see thank you again for bringing this to my attention!

  2. I’m not a big fan of Fantasy football but I’m still a bit in the line but compared to my best friend, James he knows a lot and plays really well. I think Fanduel is a good offer but I really don’t like the fact that it allows  a particular set of people have greater advantage, well, creating a business offer like this is to make money, so I don’t really blame then for ascribing more chances to those who can put in more money. I’ll share this article to James and I know he’s going to love it, who knows, I might change my mind all do a sudden, so I’ll keep it with me too. Thanks for sharing.

    • I appreciate the feedback! I agree, I was a bit bummed when I first started playing, because I did not win very much, but now using different strategies and being in the casual fans games that keep out the bigger players I am able to typically win more than I lose. Except for last week and I didn’t win anything, that’s what happens when you pick a lot of players from one team and then that team doesn’t do well (I’m looking at you Dallas Cowboys!)

  3. I guess, enthusiasts of Fan Duel should really be knowledgeable in the players’ statistics to be able to make up an effective draft. Of course, an over all strategy should work by starting with small amounts until you get better in combining players for a gradual stable win. Gamble is always risky but with great observation, proper combination and game analysis, it’s going to give you better betting result. That’s how effective participants do to monetize from this type of games. Thanks for sharing!

    • I agree, you probably won’t win big but you never know! And with their addition of beginner games that do not allow the more experienced players to participate it helps out a lot!

  4. For really am not a good supporter of football but with your information about the fantasy football you have made me fall in love with sports more and more and am now eager to go check on your website for different options for example price, games and I think I will be joining soon thanks admin

    • Thank you for checking out my blog! I am glad to hear it has helped make you enjoy football more, hope to chat with you in the future about fantasy sports!

  5. Hi,

Thanks for writing such a detailed article on FanDuel, I’m sure it will be valuable to all of those fantasy sports fanatics out there, based on your review it seems legit although it is a risk, people are betting their money after all. People who join can play with others in tournaments making it more interesting for everyone.

At the beginning you mentioned football over in this part if the world football has a totally different meaning as in soccer.

    Well written, good luck.

    Fintan

    • It is a risk for sure, I hope people realize this and only play with money that they can lose! There are games for as little as 10 cents though so you do not have to be rich to be able to play. Thank you for reading!

  6. Hello Travis

Good post and nice review of FanDuel.

For most of us, conventional sports is not something we find easy to commit to, participate in, and keep up the discipline to achieve even the least star rating. That’s why I’d say creators of sports have thought about many of us.

I’ve not participated in paid virtual sports because of the betting aspect of it. However, without denying it, this has grown into a huge market. Some reviewers say it could be indulging and addictive. Is it true?

    Boniface from AndroidBix

    • It is addictive, so if you have problems gambling I would stay away because you can lose money. Me personally, I have a budget set aside for fantasy sports, just like going to the movies or whatever, and once that money is gone I am done. But I do the same thing when I go to the casino, for me it is money to spend, and if I happen to win money then great! Used properly it is a lot of fun, but not if it is going to cause problems for you financially.

  7. Wow! rather interesting to see here. I like the chances of winning here and the prices attached to playing fantasy s really awesome. I never knew that playing fantasy football can be this much massive to do. Wow! i really love every bit of what I have read and I will try to inculcate them. I will check out Fanduel since it has been established to be a legitimate website. thanks

    • Fantasy sports in general are growing exponentially, but fantasy football will always be the top dog. Just easier to play without having games all through out the week. Hope you enjoy your games!

  8. Never really given the fanduel a try before but it is something i wouldn’t mind to try out looking at how awesome it is. I can play daily and also pick any player i want. Sounds pretty cool. I am bothered though because the company has had some court cases. Is there a reason for this? Are they on th good books of the fantasy football league?

    • Both Fanduel and Draftkings had court cases concerning their employees playing these games, which they both remedied. Now you are not allowed to play these games if you work for those companies. Now everything is going smoothly and they are both growing as a company.

  9. I love fantasy football and as a Seattle Seahawks fan I try to draft Russell Wilson probably more often than I should haha, but hey this year he’s usually money in the bank! Well, not real money as I haven’t played for keeps. I looked at the map for Fanduel and I am shocked to see (okay maybe not since our politicians in this state are mentally challenged wing-nuts) that paid contests are not allowed in Washington State! That sucks, but our state is one of the worst in the country for tax burden and government overreach.. so I guess I’m actually not surprised. But still kind of a bummer. Thanks for the interesting post.

    • I was actually a little surprised when I saw that, since Washington is normally very liberal on letting the people do what they want. It was one of the first states to legalize marijuana fully! But hopefully soon now that the federal ban on betting has been lifted. I am a big fan of Russel Wilson, a few years ago him and Doug Baldwin led my team to fantasy football success! Thank you for checking out the post!

  10. Very very good post you have here. Every single time, i keep getting ecstatic about going into the fantasy football league because I am sure it will be so much fun. I have learnt so much from your posts that i have read. I think that fanduel is a good platform that one will really enjoy making use of at the end of the day. Since it will help those that have lost out on points already to engage in something else fun. It’ll be nice. Thank you for a good insight.

  11. I have heard quite a couple of good and bad things about fanduel and that has been the reason I was yet o get involved in it. Though they surely present a better offer for a fantasy football but It just doesn’t make a whole lot o sense for me to just get attached like that without doing a proper research and that is why I am here on this website. I would say that I am much more convinced that fanduel is actually okay to me and worth giving a trial too

    • We should always do our research, thank you for checking out my review on Fanduel. Without some of the other tools it may be tough to quit your day job, but it is still a lot of fun! And you do not have to spend a lot of money to play, they have games at all levels, from 10 cents to thousands of dollars!

  12. Football is interesting and exciting; it brings and unites the world together.

I’m not a really big fan of football, though I love it and I played football games a lot of time on my phone. FanDuel looks really exciting; from what I read on this page, it even looks like real football and an opportunity to make (or loose lol) money is inside it. Good stuff Travis

    Farewell!

    • Happy that you found this interesting, sometimes people play that were not fans of football before but fantasy football has brought them in. Gives people more of a rooting interest in the games. Have a great day!

  13. Hello, Travis, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. Honestly, I am not a big fan of fantasy football but this is something I would definitely try, you know, it is great to learn something new. I also like it is not expensive so next weekend I will call my friends. Thanks for explaining everything about Fanduel.

    • Glad I could help! Fantasy football is a lot of fun, but there are also other sports available if you prefer a different one. Have fun!

  14. Hmmm, sounds like those who are the real fans of fanduel will know so much about the players and their statistics. They should know the best of the best and those that will perform. I see you mentioned that one can find games and other stuff for as low ad $5 but I thought that fantasy games are always for free.

    • There are plenty of fantasy games that are free, including on Fanduel, but fantasy sports is now a multi-billion dollar industry now! It goes hand in hand with sports these days

  15. Oh, this is really nice because I was already told about how bad fantasy football can go with some injuries or a bad form. I am happy that there is another avenue that I can make use of to get the best out of my fantasy. I like the fact that one can choose any team and any player that one wants. That’s a very good thing. I will definitely like to give it a try. Thank you very much for the information.

    • Yes John, I have a couple season long leagues that were hurt by my top players getting hurt, with Fanduel I can just draft again every week! Thank you for checking out my page!

  16. Really nice article Travis. I must say, this FanDuel review is very indept and informative.

I wonder why some persons or company will label it scam! But it was stated and made known to everyone that money can be lost. It’s like sports betting; what am I saying?? As a matter of fact, it is sports betting and as you know, money can be lost.

Keep up the good work Travis 🙂

    • Thank you! I agree, when I go to the casinos I am fully aware that I may lose money, and prepare appropriately for that. Same thing here, there is a chance of losing money but there is also a chance to win!

  17. Wow, thank you so much for going into the details of Fanduel! I have been trying to find an article that thoroughly explains its fundamentals and how it works but I have been unable to find anything worth reading in its entirety because they are always way too broad. This article has captured and held my attention and I appreciate that
