NFL Fantasy Football Playoffs
Well if you are reading this then you are probably in the midst of your NFL fantasy football playoffs. If that is the case then congratulations! You are in the home stretch now, in most leagues you need 2 more wins to take home 1st place and bragging rights!
The downside is that there will not be near as much help on the waiver wire, especially if one of your players have been injured in recent week. Sometimes winning your fantasy football league can take a little luck, but you can always help yourself out by doing your due diligence and finding that diamond in the rough that may be peaking at just the right time to help you this week. Without further ado here are some possible options this week on the waiver wire.
Ryan Fitzpatrick – Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins have had a forgettable season, but the Fitz-magic is alive and well for the holidays. He is only on 23% of Yahoo fantasy football leagues, and has match ups against the lowly New York Giants and the even lowlier Cincinnati Bengals in what would be your championship game. Pick him up immediately if you are struggling at quarterback!
Ryan Tannehill – Tennessee Titans
From current Miami Dolphin quarterback to former Miami Dolphin quarterback, Tannehill is another player who has had a resurgence in the last couple of months. Ever since taking over for Marcus Mariotta, he has 7 out of 8 games over 18 fantasy points in traditional PPR leagues, and has a Houston defense that just got torn apart by a rookie quarterback in Drew Lock with Denver. Looking ahead to the championship game he has a match up against New Orleans who just had a shoot out with San Francisco since their defense couldn’t stop anybody. Available in 52% of leagues, pick him up if he’s available!
Mitchell Trubiski – Chicago Bears
A few weeks ago I would have been crazy to put this name on here, but in that time Trubiski has put together a nice string of games culminating in a spectacular game against the 7th ranked Dallas Cowboys passing defense in which he passed for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding 63 yards rushing and another touchdown on the ground. He is only owned in 19% of Yahoo leagues, so he is probably available. Looking ahead to week 15 is a match up against Green Bay who has been more vulnerable lately to the pass, and week 16 is a match up at home against Kansas City, who is known to be susceptible to mobile quarterbacks.
Patrick Laird – Miami Dophins
With Ryan Fitzpatrick being successful through the air, that opens up lanes for the few running backs that are left healthy in Miami. After Ballage went down with an injury, Laird has stepped up with back-to-back 12+ point fantasy games. Those were against the Eagles and the Jets who have actually been good against the run. The next two games are against the Giants and the Bengals, so if you are struggling for a fill in running back this could be your guy. He is available in 79% of fantasy leagues.
Raheem Mostert – San Francisco 49ers
Still surprisingly available in 48% of Yahoo fantasy leagues, Mostert has put together 2 very nice games against two of the toughest rushing defenses in the league in Baltimore and New Orleans, getting 23.40 and 24.90 points respectfully in traditional PPR leagues.
Adrian Peterson – Washington Redskins
If you are in my league then he is not available so I apologize, but if not you should definitely pick him up! With Derrius Guice going down to injury (again) Peterson should be in line for a big game against the Eagles this week. He is only on 40% of Yahoo fantasy football leagues, and will be a good addition to any lineup, especially if you have been depending on Sony Michel like I have.
A.J. Brown – Tennessee Titans
The second year receiver from Tennessee has started to create a nice connection with Tannehill, so if you need to pair a receiver with your new quarterback this would be your guy. Tons of athleticism, you never know when he is going to break on, such as his 91 yard touchdown this past week against the Raiders. Available in 73% of leagues, pick him up now for receiver help.
Allen Hurns – Miami Dolphins
Another name you may not think about when putting together your playoff roster, Hurns has had a decent month and may be due for a breakout soon, with match ups against the Giants and the Bengals. If Fitzpatrick does well it makes sense that Hurns would have a good game as well, and he is available in just about every league (99%).
Darius Slayton – New York Giants
Slayton has had a pretty good month, as the rookie has had over 10 points in all 4 games and 2 of those over 30 points. Having Eli Manning back the last game seemed to help, as the 2 had an instant connection with 2 touchdowns in the first half. With games against Miami and Washington up next, pick him up for your playoff run. Available in 73% of leagues.
Tyler Higbee – Los Angeles Rams
Higbee has taken advantage with start Gerald Everett out, and has put himself in the waiver wire conversation regardless if Everett comes back. Only owned in 22% of leagues, and a match up against the suddenly struggling Cowboys, he could be the guy to help get you into the championship game.
David Njoku – Cleveland Browns
Njoku only had 3 targets i his return from injury last week, but with the Brown desperately needing a win this week he could have a few more targets against a terrible Arizona defense. Pickings are slim in the tight end department at this point in the season, but if you are in need of one you could roll the dice with Njoku. Still available in 63% of Yahoo fantasy leagues.
Mike Gesicki – Miami Dolphins
There are 4 or 5 different tight ends that could have been put here, but with the Dolphins facing the Giants who just let up tons of action to the Philadelphia tight ends last night, I would put my money of Gesicki if I were in need of a tight end. Available in 70% of Yahoo leagues, has the chance for a double digit fantasy game this week.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have not been know for defense in the last few years, but they have made some nice additions to help Mahomes get back on the field more often in the last month. Facing a Denver team that just took apart a Houston Texans defense, look for Kansas City to take note of what the Broncos are capable of. Still available in 68% of leagues.
After a disappointing game on Sunday night against the Rams, Seattle should come out firing on all cylinders as they battle for first place in the NFC west. Games against Carolina and Arizona coming up, this could be the defense to take you all the way, only owned in 42% of Yahoo leagues.
This game could go either of two ways : the Cowboys come out on fire and dominate the Los Angeles Rams at home, or they shut down on coach Jason Garrett and continue a downward spiral to this season. With your other options on the waiver wire being teams like the Raiders, Giants, and Buccaneers, this is probably your best option to pick up, being available in 61% of Yahoo leagues. That being said, if they do come out flat, it could be a long day for the Cowboys defense facing a team chasing that last playoff spot in the Rams.
Congratulations making it this far in your fantasy football season. There are a lot of people who didn’t. Hopefully this list will help you make it to your championship game! If so please leave a comment, or if you have any questions about your line up! Have a great week!
