A lot of people have asked me about my blog and why I am doing it, and although I do enjoy writing posts for my blog and interacting with the people who take the time to read them, the endgame is to create a passive income in order to free up my time so that I am able to spend more time enjoying life with my family. Paraphrasing the words of Warren Buffet, if you do not find a way to make money while you sleep, you will be working for the rest of your life. I doubt that sounds anymore appealing to you than it does to me.
To do this I have become an affiliate marketer, which means that I have links throughout my blog that will lead people to other goods and services, and if they buy something I get a percentage of that sell. Most importantly, you do need to let people know that this does not increase the price of the product, it’s just a way of advertising for these companies.
There are numerous websites that you will come across that can help you in this process, and many that are just there to take your money (in other words a scam!). I cannot speak about those other sites, but I can tell you about my experience here in my Wealthy Affiliates Review.
First Thing – This is not a get-rich-quick scheme!
Wait, were you expecting me to tell you about the 1,000’s of dollars you will make in the first week? Sorry, that’s not what this is. And honestly, if you do find a website telling you that, I would run the other direction as fast as you can. If it were that easy to make money online don’t you think that everybody would have already quit their jobs and retired?
This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You will need to put in work. Putting together a blog post or two then leaving it is not going to get the job done. Even after putting in multiple posts a week, it will take time to create a flow of income. There are ways on Wealthy Affiliate that you can make a little money while you are building your website, which I will go over later. As the saying goes, don’t quit your day job just yet!
What is the Wealthy Affiliate?
You still here? Ok let’s talk about what the Wealthy Affiliate actually is. The Wealthy Affiliate is a website created by Kyle and Carson in 2005 to help others create niche websites and make money online. There is extensive training that will help you find a niche, create a website, and then monetize your website.
The Wealthy Affiliate will also host your website, up to 2 free even if you do not sign up for the premium services. In addition, you will have access to Jaaxy, which will help create your blog post titles that will work better with search engines. Also, the Wealthy Affiliate pairs with WordPress to help create those posts, as well as helps build your website with 1,000’s of different themes.
There are currently members almost half a million members to help you along the way as well. Whenever you get stuck, just ask a question in the forums and there will be numerous people to answer it. Along the way you will create bonds and friendships as you interact with Wealthy Affiliate members.
So how does Wealthy Affiliate help you Make Money?
It is a very simple process:
1. Choose a niche for your website – This could be a hobby or an interest, basically anything that you feel you could write about. Weight lifting, makeup tutorials, hiking, etc. This will be the basis of your website so make sure you pick something you enjoy.
2. Build your website – using training that goes over step by step what to do and how to create a website from scratch.
3. Gain traffic – Without traffic you will make no money. Using the Wealthy Affiliate community, you can orchestrate traffic by having fellow members look at your site and give you feedback, as well as leave comments on your posts. This helps the search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo begin to trust your site more, which in turn moves you up the search ranks. As this happens more people will see your site and look at your posts.
4. Make Money – Here’s the part you were waiting for, by joining with different affiliate programs (such as Amazon, Target, or the tons of other programs out there), you will be able to make money from sales made through your link.
The most important part of this is that you need to be creating quality content that is relevant to the niche that you pick. You must come up with content that people will want to read, or the search engines will not rank you high.
How Much does the Wealthy Affiliate Cost?
To create your Wealthy Affiliate profile it will cost you absolutely nothing. Yes, that means $0. No, you do not need to enter your credit card information. With the free profile you will be able to host 2 websites, as well as the first 2 training classrooms and 30 searches using Jaaxy.
For your first 7 days you will get access some of the premium information, which includes live help and 1-on-1 coaching. This is a great opportunity to see if you like the program, and get a feel for if affiliate marketing is for you or not.
During that first week, you will get an offer to purchase your first month for only $19. You will have access to everything that Wealthy Affiliate has to offer for the entire month. Great way to dive into creating your website!
After this initial month, you have a few different options. You can decide to go monthly, which is $49/month, or $234 for 6 month, which equals out to $39/month. The best deal is $359, which comes out to $29.92/month. If you were like me, coming up with $359 to start is a lot, so I started out paying the $49/month until I was able to save up the extra money for the yearly subscription.
How Long will it Take to Make Money?
Just about every other review that I read about Wealthy Affiliate before I started gave the same answer : it depends. And while that is not exactly untrue, it really doesn’t help answer the question.
Yes, if you work more, and write more posts and are more active on social media you will make money quicker than somebody that is writing a couple posts a month. It still will probably take months (yes, that is plural) before you start seeing any revenue at all from your affiliate links, and closer to a year before you are realistically going to be able to make this a full time gig.
That being said, there are ways to make money almost immediately. There is a SiteComment option that is set up to request and give comments to fellow members posts. Which is great for getting traffic in the beginning, but also a way to make some of the money needed to pay for your membership. You need to give at least 50 comments in a 30-day period, and then after that every other comment you give will be worth 50 cents.
I know, it does not seem like much, but in the first month after I found this out I made $78 just on comments, which isn’t going to help me retire anytime soon, but is obviously enough to pay for my monthly membership. The only requirements is that you stay above the 50 comments given in a 30-day period, and have an 80% approval rating or higher (it doesn’t help anybody if you are not giving valuable comments) and a 20% skip rate or lower.
In addition to the SiteComments, you can use adds from companies such as Google Adsense to monetize your website almost from the beginning. This is a personal decision, some people do not want ads on their website, it is totally up to you.

It is free to join, but with all the additions you get with your monthly fee, it is a good idea to upgrade as soon as you can. I aim for 3 posts each week, but you have to make sure it is quality content. You want people to enjoy reading your website and want to come back, that is the ultimate goal. Wealthy Affiliate is a legit way of making money online. I can attest to that. However, like you pointed out, it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes hard work and effort. But it’s totally worth it in the end.
Many people are afraid of online scams. I don’t blame them. There are so many fake programs out there promising fortunes and immediate success. That is not true. Money can be made online, but it takes time.
I’m currently working on a travel blog and I’m really enjoying it so far. The idea is to make this my full-time job in the near future and quit my job. I love the flexibility you get from working online.
